Day 1

Our German friends greet us enthusiastically as we got off the coach after our journey from Stradthagon to beautiful weather and our new home for the next few days. We were really excited and pleased to finally meet our exchange partners and fellow comenius pupils. We had a lovely introduction and learnt all about the Kliein school and the German school system and its differences and similarities to our own.

After that we went on a guided tour around the school in small groups of about three or four. It was really good, we saw the art rooms, science rooms and their canteen - the most important part of the school. We all thought it was such a lovely school, but it would be so easy for us to get lost.

After our guided tour we sat and talked for a while, about our hobbies, families and friends, everything about where we lived. It was really interesting to get to know our new friends and learn about their cultures. At about 1:00 the bell rang signaling lunch, suddenly the corridors were full of lively happy pupils all on their way to get their lunch, a perfect time for us to enjoy some German cusine. The German pupils kindly gave us some of their bread which was really nice.

Next we traveled to lübeck, we had an enchanting guide around the city which took us to the church the old town and the medicine school. We found out that lübeck was famous for marzipan and that the bricks were made out of animal fats. We also found out that holes in the ground used to be used for excretion! We had some free time so to get to know each other we went shopping, our ‘favourite’ shop H+M AGAIN, after that nightmare we could finally relax in a pizza restaurant.

Day 2,

On day 2 in Germany, we visited Hamburg (by train) where we could shop and have a boat tour of the river. We got given a translator with headphones so we understood what the tour lady was saying. On the boat we drove past some very expensive houses, we got told that some houses were worth 35 million. After the boat trip, we were allowed to go shopping. We shopped and looked around in the big shopping mall. We got some lunch after this. We hopped onto the underground train to the planetarium where we looked at the stars and planets and learnt about the universe. Some of us had a sneaky snooze hehe! After the planetarium, we headed back to the underground to the station where we got the bus home to our host’ houses.

On day 3 in Germany, we went to the school where we started our project, we had to create a website and write about our days in Germany. Also, a group of us visited the Major’s house where we heard a speech and got given food and drink, our English and Spanish teachers thanked everyone for the hospitality they have given us. The press where there and took photos of us to be in the local newspaper. We walked back to the school where we carried on making the project and when it was time for lunch, we headed down to the canteen. For lunch we had all different food from the 3 countries, England, Spain and Germany, this was fun experiencing the different type of food people in different cultures eat. After school, we got the bus back to the host’ house and then got the bus again, to a bowling ally. We played bowling for a while, and then went to an American style restaurant which was really fun as we talked a lot with everyone. We then made our way back to the German host’ house to get a good night sleep. This was the last day of our Comenius Project which we enjoyed very much.
